Jamila Crawford was named the principal of Cross Timbers Elementary on August 1, 2015. She replaced Cathey Bugg who was named principal of Heritage Elementary, the district’s newest elementary that opened in August.
“Mrs. Crawford has a long history in Edmond as an outstanding educator in the roles of teacher and administrator,” said Superintendent Bret Towne. “She has served Cross Timbers for three years as a respected assistant principal. Her positive relationships with staff and families will ensure a smooth transition as they build on the legacy left by Cathey Bugg’s tenure,” said Towne.
Crawford has a master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma. Prior to her service as an assistant principal at Cross Timbers, she served as an assistant principal at Orvis Risner Elementary. She also spent 10 years as a first-grade teacher in the district, where she implemented innovating lessons and interactive enriched learning at both Charles Haskell Elementary and Ida Freeman Elementary.
“Jamila is an extraordinary educator who is driven and focused but also fun-loving and cheerful. Her unique set of skills make her the perfect person to lead the Cross Timbers team.” said Associate Superintendent Ruthie Riggs.
Crawford has served on numerous professional development teams and district committees. She is a member of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration, and the Oklahoma and National Associations of Elementary School Principals.
